Domain statuses

Status Description
OK

This is the standard status for a domain, meaning it has no pending operations or prohibitions. A domain name is active, thus capable of hosting web pages, e-mail or name servers.

You can ask your registrar to enact status restrictions, like ‘client Transfer Prohibited’, ‘client Delete Prohibited’ and ‘client Update Prohibited’, thereby preventing unauthorized transfers, deletions, or updates to your domain.

Inactive

This status code indicates that delegation information (name servers) has not been associated with your domain. Your domain is not activated in the DNS and will not resolve.

If also RGP status Add Period is present domain name can be returned and de-registered.

Pending delete (quarantine)

A domain is being quarantined for 30 days as it has either expired or been set to be deleted. During this period none of the Internet services (e.g. website, e-mail) linked to the quarantined domain name, is functional.

RGP status will tell you the precise state a domain is in. If RGP is set to Redemption Period, it means domain was set to be deleted. If there is no RGP status, domain has expired.

Registrar prohibits delete

This status code is set by Registrar and tells domain’s Registry to reject requests to your domain to Pending Delete.

This status does not prevent domain name from expiration.

Registrar prohibits renew

This status code is set by Registrar and tells domain’s Registry to reject requests to renew your domain.

Often, this status indicates an issue with your domain that needs resolution. If so, you should contact your Registrar to resolve the issue. If your domain does not have any issues, and you simply want to renew it, you must first contact your Registrar and request that they remove this status code.

Registrar prohibits update

This status code is set by Registrar and tells domain’s Registry to reject requests to update the domain. This domain name status indicates that it is not possible to update the domain, which can help prevent unauthorized updates resulting from fraud.

Domain deactivated by Registrar

This status code is set by Registrar and tells domain’s Registry to not activate your domain in the DNS and as a consequence, it will not resolve. It is an uncommon status that is usually enacted during legal disputes, non-payment, or when your domain is subject to deletion.

Often, this status indicates an issue with your domain that needs resolution. If so, you should contact your Registrar to resolve the issue. If your domain does not have any issues, but you need it to resolve, you must first contact your Registrar and request that they remove this status code.

Domain deactivated by Registry

This status code is set by Registry. Your domain is not in the DNS and thus not active.

If you provided delegation information (name servers), this status may indicate an issue with your domain that needs resolution. If so, you should contact your the Registry to request more information.

Delete prohibited

This status code prevents your domain from being set to Pending Delete. It is an uncommon status that is usually enacted during legal disputes, or at your request (Registry Lock). This status does not prevent domain name from expiration.

Transfer prohibited

This status code prevents your domain from being transferred from your current Registrar to another. It is an uncommon status that is usually enacted during legal or other disputes, or at your request (locking a domain name).

Registry prohibits update

This status code is set by Registry and locks your domain preventing it from being updated. It is usually set at your request (Registry Lock).

This status may indicate an issue with your domain that needs resolution. If so, you should contact your registrar for more information or to resolve the issue. If your domain does not have any issues, and you simply want to update it, you must first contact your registrar and request that they work with the Registry to remove this status code.

This status code is set by Registry and prevents your domain from being transferred from your current Registrant to another. It is an uncommon status that is usually enacted during legal or other disputes.
